Hello. Here is PART 2 of the never ending saga of a political art piece that I and my fiancé performed at the Ffida Toronto International Dance Festival/Canada in the Summer of 2003. This piece features me, Candice Franklin, as choreographer and dancer & my fiancé, Kamal Symonette-Dixon as the actor and writer.
In order to get this piece, you may have to watch it a couple times. Kamal plays the storyteller, telling a tall metaphor to explain the 911, the war in Iraq, and America’s feeling of supremacy. I, the dancer, play both a girl and her brother who terrorizes big sister’s room. The girl represents America and the brother represents the terrorist of the Middle East. The music is from the Porter Music Box Company. Every word is a metaphor for something real in the world and the music characterizes the feelings of what is going on such as “Think of Me,” “I Feel Pretty,” “Masterpiece Theatre,” the “William Tell Overture,” and “Swan Lake.” The scene opens with America having a tea party at the UN with France, Germany, and England. Mommy is God/Allah . . .
Sorry about the audio on this video. We performed the old school way without microphones because the body mike was giving too much feedback in rehearsal and the words in this piece are soooooo important. Either way, I would enjoy your comments because unfortunately this piece still seems relevant three years after it was originally performed! Enjoy!
